Airfreight Rates Begin to Ease as Capacity Returns
Global air cargo spot rates climbed 30% year-on-year in April, reaching their highest level since October 2022 at USD 3.34 per kilogram. The increase was largely driven by capacity disruptions linked to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
However, air cargo analysts Xeneta say the market may now be stabilising, with capacity gradually returning on key trade routes. As more space becomes available, rates are expected to ease in the coming weeks, providing some relief for shippers who have faced ongoing volatility and rising transport costs.
Despite concerns around fuel shortages, long-haul international routes continue to operate as airlines prioritise major global trade lanes.
