China Holidays: The Countdown Is Over

Time has run out. China’s holiday period starts tomorrow.

If you have cargo moving out of China, here’s what to expect over the next couple of weeks.

Factories and businesses will close, demand for vessel space has increased, and vessels are already sliding with blank sailings being announced. Delays are expected, and it may take some time for schedules to settle once businesses reopen.

For cargo already booked, now is the time to make sure all your documentation is in order, including documents required for customs clearance and telex releases. The last thing you need is for your cargo to arrive and then sit waiting because a document hasn't been released.

The holidays run from 25 September to 7 October (there’s a few days relief in between, but most business are expected to close the entire time), the impact will likely be felt well beyond those dates.

If you're importing from China, expect delays and allow extra time wherever you can.
