Fremantle Traffic Bridge Project Reaches Major Construction Milestone
The replacement of the Fremantle Traffic Bridge has reached another significant milestone, with major structural works now nearing completion.
According to the latest project update, all 46 bridge beams have been installed and the bridge deck is now approximately 80% complete. Final concrete pours are scheduled for July, after which crews will begin installing road barriers, applying road surfacing and completing asphalt works.
Demolition of the existing bridge is also progressing well. The bridge deck, upper piers and abutments have been removed, while almost half of the underwater piles have now been extracted. The removal of the central piles has widened the navigation channel, improving access for vessels travelling along the Swan River.
Considering the size and complexity of the project, traffic has continued to flow remarkably well throughout construction. The traffic management teams have done an excellent job of minimising disruption, and there have been no notable impacts on freight movements or day-to-day access to Fremantle.
Looking ahead, landscaping works will commence on the southern side of the bridge, improving public access to the foreshore and strengthening the connection between the Swan River and Cantonment Hill. The project has also delivered broader community benefits, including what is believed to be one of Australia's first Aboriginal-focused rigging traineeship pathways in the construction industry.
The new bridge will provide an important long-term transport link between Fremantle and North Fremantle, supporting more efficient movement for freight, commuters and the local community.
End to End Logistics will continue to monitor the project's progress and provide updates as further milestones are reached.
