June Container Volumes Dip as Weather Impacts Fremantle Operations

Fremantle Ports' June container trade figures show total throughput fell to 64,788 TEU, the lowest monthly volume since February 2025. Both import and export volumes eased during the month.

While lower volumes can sometimes point to weaker demand, June's figures were likely influenced by several severe weather events that resulted in temporary port evacuations and operational disruptions.

It highlights how quickly weather can impact the supply chain. Even short interruptions can delay vessel arrivals, affect terminal operations and create flow-on impacts for transport providers and cargo owners.

July's figures are expected to rebound, as many vessels originally scheduled to arrive in June were delayed into July.

One month's figures don't define a long term trend, but they are a reminder that flexibility remains an important part of international shipping.
