Bringing Shipping Into the Spotlight: Talking Global Disruption in the Media

It’s been a busy week discussing shipping, not just within the logistics industry but in mainstream media as well.

I recently spoke with Nadia Mitsopoulos on ABC Radio Perth’s Mornings Program, and later with Nine News, about the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the impact they’re having on global shipping.

When instability develops in that region, the effects quickly ripple through global supply chains. Ships may slow down, reroute, or delay voyages, cargo can become stuck, and shipping schedules begin to unravel. As this happens, freight costs often rise and carriers may introduce emergency surcharges.

For Australian businesses that rely on imports and exports, these disruptions can be felt quickly through delays, rising freight rates, and ongoing uncertainty around schedules.

Shipping often operates quietly in the background, but moments like this highlight how closely global events are tied to the everyday goods Australians rely on.
