Australia–EU Trade Deal: A New Chapter
After eight years of negotiations, Australia and the European Union have finalised a landmark free trade agreement, opening the door to easier, more cost effective trade between the two markets.
With tariffs set to be eliminated on Australian industrial goods entering Europe, and fewer barriers on goods coming into Australia, businesses can expect improved pricing, smoother market access, and expanded opportunities across a market of 450 million people.
For importers, this means greater access to European products at more competitive rates. For exporters, it creates a clearer pathway into one of the world’s largest and most stable economies.
From a logistics perspective, increased trade volumes between Australia and Europe are likely. As demand grows, so too will the need for efficient supply chains, reliable transit times, and better planning across longer shipping routes.
While some details, particularly around agriculture, are still under scrutiny, the overall direction is clear: trade between Australia and Europe is set to expand.
This agreement also lifts Australia’s global trade coverage to around 88%, reinforcing a broader shift toward diversification and more resilient supply chains.
The takeaway?
Lower tariffs are just the beginning, how businesses manage their end to end logistics will determine who benefits most.
