The Fremantle Traffic Bridge Is Having a Party … And Everyone’s Invited!

After months of construction, traffic changes and finding our way around the Fremantle Traffic Bridge project, there's finally something to celebrate!

The WA Government is inviting the community to help mark the opening of the new Fremantle Traffic Bridge with a free, family-friendly festival on Sunday, 1 November 2026, from 9am to 1pm.

And yes, you can walk across the new bridge before it officially opens to traffic!

A bridge worth celebrating

The festival will take place beneath the bridge on Beach Street, with a free sausage sizzle, activities and entertainment for the whole family.

Visitors will be able to access the bridge on foot from both the north and south sides, offering a chance to experience the new crossing before vehicles begin using it.

For those of us who work in freight and logistics, this project has been about much more than concrete, steel and construction milestones. The Fremantle Traffic Bridge is an important link in the road network connecting Fremantle, North Fremantle and surrounding freight routes.

Getting to this point has taken considerable work, planning and coordination, so it's nice to see the community being invited to celebrate the finished result.

Planning a visit?

If you're keen to be part of the celebrations, here are the details:

  • When: Sunday, 1 November 2026

  • Time: 9am-1pm

  • Where: Festival hub beneath the bridge on Beach Street, Fremantle

  • Cost: Free

There will be no event parking, so visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport. Bike racks will be available, and a free shuttle bus will operate from Fremantle Station. Both Fremantle and North Fremantle train stations are around a 15 minute walk from the bridge.

Registration is requested to help organisers plan catering, transport and activities. You can register through the Main Roads WA website.

After following this project for so long, it's great to see the finish line in sight. And with a sausage sizzle thrown in, it's a pretty good excuse to get out and have a look!

We'll be keeping an eye on the bridge as it moves into its next chapter … this time, hopefully with fewer traffic detours and a lot more sausages.
